What is the best way to protect upholstered furniture from cats?

I am adopting 2 cats tomorrow, my last cat, whom I lost recently, did some damage to a chair. I bought a scratching post for the new cats, but want to know if there is anything I can do to my furniture to discourage my new cats from scratching it.
Thanks.
keep nails trimmed about every 2 wks or so, put catnip on the scratching post to attract them to it, spray something on the chair to deter the kitties (like perfume, citrus spray or a "keep away" cat repellent from a pet store). you can also put some strips of double-side sticky tape on the chair – cats don’t like the feel of that. leave it on the part of the chair you’re worried about for a week or so & it will help train them to go somewhere else to scratch.
of course, you may be lucky enough to be bringing home kitties that just really scratch furniture anyway. kudos to you for adopting, good luck with them & congrats on your new additions!
Keep their claws trimmed properly. A vet, animal shelter, or store like Petsmart or Petco can give you info if you don’t know how to do that.
Keep their nails trimmed. Soft paws work really well too.
SOFT PAWS.. claw protectors…
a scratching post will get more use if you move it around every 2-3 weeks or even lay it on its side every now and again.. (cats like to use things that they think are "new")
you can also rub cat nip on it to encourage use… (I personally have 3 cat towers with beds on the top of them.)
invest in lots of toys – have only some of the toys out at any time and rotate them every 2-3 weeks – honeysuckle toys are great!!
but over all a product known as SOFT PAWS is the most effective.. you glue these nail covers on the front nails and they do work..
YEAH FOR YOU FOR ADOPTING!!!!
(if you havent already picked.. adults, particularly of Persian or Himalayan breedings are less claw agressive.. or maybe the shelter has some declawed ones for adoption)
don’t fight the tide.
Been there — done that.
Don’t let the cats anywhere near the furniture.
I have a friend with a cat with front claws only. They bought a new leather couch.
She got het cat,s claws done with a new technic.Pet Grooming, they slip these plastic sleeves on the cats claws and glue them on.They come in all colours hers are bright pink as she is a girl they work great
