You get what you pay for. I suggest you go onto http://www.craigslist.org and find some used furniture people are selling in your area. You can get some good buys that way, especially at the end of the month when the people who are moving out of apartments have run out of time to get rid of stuff. By the way, the Goodwill near me sells brand new mattresses very cheaply.
I have heard the same thing about ikea, you get what you pay for. Prices are lower then alot of other places …….. i would not recommend it if you plan on keeping it for a long time
Ikea makes good quality affordable furniture. If you’re looking for furniture to last a lifetime, you’ll have to go with something more expensive and of a higher quality.
i have an armoire and 2 night stands from IKEA. I’ve had them for a few years and they’re holding up well. However, you will rarely get solid wood from IKEA, so that’s why people will tell you its not quality. usually it’s a combo of pressboard and MDF. i suggest you go to a store and really test out the piece you’re looking to buy. they do vigorous testing to provide quality. hpwever if you’re springboarding off your furniture, its not going to hold up.
Depends what you get, how you assemble it, and how you treat it. I won’t buy anything that is made from particle board, that’s the stuff that breaks most easily and not only if it’s from Ikea. I’ll only buy solid wood or sometimes plywood, and I look at the pieces carefully before I buy to make sure I like what I see. If you are careless when you assemble it or treat it roughly when you move it, your chances of breaking it go up. For the price, Ikea is pretty good. I’ve seen furniture from other places that cost more, was not made as well and was harder to assemble.
