How do I get mold out of furniture?

I have authentic theater chairs and I put them in my unfinished basement for storage. My dehumidifier broke down, and I hardly ever go down there. Well by the time I realized it was broken I had mold in my theater chairs. Is there any safe way to get the mold out without damaging the chairs?
It depends on the covering. You may have them professionally cleaned ie steamed. You may let them dry thoroughly, then take outside and brush them off well and vacuum, then wash them with mild detergent and then extract the moisture. Let dry again and vacuum once more. This will probably take care of it if it is not really bad.
If it is really bad a lot of times the mold will basically eat the fabric and the color will become spotted, or the chairs will be trash do to infiltration into the stuffing etc. Here once again an expert carpet cleaner may be able to save them.
Make sure you wear an appropriate respirator (I think N93) and clothing as cross contamination is a factor.
Also check the EPA guidelines on mold.
That is my best answer.
I hope that it helps.
