why are bar stools and tables so tall?

i understand the ones by the bar so people can reach, but the ones away are also tall.

>The reason why is because, originally, people walked up to a bar in a saloon and STOOD and drank their drinks. Since the bar table had to be the height of a person up to about their waist or lower chest, they were tall. Finally, somebody got the idea, hey, why not sit down and drink? So they created bar stools and these had to be high enough so a person could sit comfortably in front of the bar and drink.
