What tools can I use to cut metal pipe?
I bought these two bar stools from Walmart and there are 29", I needed the 24" but I didn’t realize they were to high until I actually put them up to my bar, I cant return them so I thought of just shorting the legs would work, what do you think? And what tools are needed to do so? – to see a pic of the stool go to http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=2400592

If you dont want to spend a lot, just a hacksaw from walmart or the hardware store. If you have access to a cut off or a chopsaw with a metal cutting blade, that would make a nice even cut. if you use a hacksaw, you should mark the legs all the way around where you want to cut them, so your cut is not crooked, or it may sit unevenly when you are through.
Metal bladed hacksaw the most convenient. A "pipe" cutter the best. Nice clean cut. A Dremil rotor tool is preety slick for things like that also. Good luck.
Also, you may need to get different floor tips if the tubing diameter is different where you are going to cut.

|^| that’s a pretty good plan, although keep in mind you will need to put new feet on the ends; if you cut them and then put them straight on tile (assuming it’ll be on tile) it’ll scratch that tile right up.
Try a hack saw or if you know some one who does welding they can do it with a torch
You can buy an inexpensive tubing cutter that should cut the legs. You measure where you want to cut, place the cutter on the pipe, and in a clockwise turn score the pipe. Tighten the cutter every turn or so, and within 5-10 turns, the pipe will sever. Very easy, job, just take your time and make sure all cuts are at the same length.
The tube cutter would be the best for the job, just make sure that the cutting wheel is suitible for steel or u will be making another trip later. Most tube cutter come with copper cutting wheels but you can get the steel ones in a separate package. One more thing make sure you measure the diameter of the stool legs and that you but a tube cutter suitable for that size.
SHORTENING THE LEGS MAY NOT BE THE BEST THING, BUT IF THATS WHAT YOU WANT TO DO, HERE GOES. MARK YOUR LEGS ALL THE SAME, EASIEST IF MEASURED DOWN FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE SEAT, THEN GET A HACK-SAW WITH A GOOD BLADE. IF THE LEGS ARE HOLLOW, WHICH THEY PROBABLY ARE, THE CUTTING SHOULD BE EASY. ONCE CUT TAKE SAND PAPER AND SMOOTH THE EDGES, THEY WILL BE ROUGH. IF THE STOOL ORIGANALLY HAD FEET REMOVE THEM AND PLACE THEM ON YOUR NEWLY CUT LEGS, IF NOT OR YOU CANT GET THEM OFF YOU SHOULD BUY SOME AND PUT ON THE STOOL. I HOPE THIS WORKS FOR YOU.
you need a pipe threading/ cutting tool
the best thing to do is to get a plummers pipe cuting tool it clamps round the pipe and u spin it as it spins it cuts, it will cut it very acurate, if useing a hack saw u have to be good with it the pipe cutter is a no brainer. if you live near a houseing complex use your womanly charms and ask the maintainance guy to do it for you he will have a pipe cutter
While the above tools will work to cut your chair legs, you have a preoblem. You will need to make the cuts at a slight angle so the ends will sit flat on the ground. The legs spread out , not up and down. doing a flat cut like with the tube cutters will have outside points on ground digging in. So use the hack saw but also get an "adjustable angle finder" and a small level. With the stool on a flat surface place the angle finder on the outside of the leg with the arm along side of leg. Use the level to adjust the arm so its flat level and tighten down, that gives you the slight angle so cut will be flat with floor. With the angle set, mark a line one both sides of leg so will be able to stay even with cut. Either way, good luck.
