What is the best paint for painting old wooden chairs, like the kind in restaurants?

The chairs we have are painted but need repainted. So after sanding what paint would be best? Latex enamel?

if it was me i would be using an exterior alkyd paint on them. you say they are sanded already? please make sure that they are not sanded too smooth. if they are then that closes the wood fibres up on any exposed wood and your primer will not penetrate properly. before you begin priming make sure that they have been washed well with TSP and water the rinse and allow to dry. apply 1 – 2 coats of an alkyd primer under coater. then apply 1 – 2 coats of an alkyd porch and floor enamel. make sure you give a light sand between coats. the porch and floor enamel will give you the most durability. for something like this i would use some 4 inch fibre rollers. it will make the job go faster and give you a nice spray like appearance. if you use these rollers make sure you wash and dry them first. this will remove any loose fibres. if there is any chance that the chairs can be taken apart then do that and paint all sides. this will help your paint to last alot longer. if you would like them to dry faster mix some japan dries into your paint. not only will the paint dry faster but it will make it even more durable.

Latex enamel paint is very shiny and glossy this would be great in the place that you’re putting might allow it to get dirty since this paint resists stains, even though it might be a bit expensive
White, brown, orange but a light orange
use spray paint.
