Remove the old vinyl carefully and use the old vinyl for a pattern to cut the new vinyl if at all possible allowing a little extra fabric so you will have enough excess fabric to staple and stretch the new fabric taught on the seats, if you can’t save the old fabirc to get a pattern just lay the seat on a piece of newspaper and trace around the seat allowing at least one inch larger than the seat. This is a fairly easy thing to do…I just recovered my computer chair both the seat and back using this remedy and it looks great. The seat base and the back of the seat are plastic on my computer chair so I hot glued it and so far it is holding up, but use staples if you have something to staple into, I also recovered a head board on one of our beds and it turned out real nice tool
Good Luck.
go to ehow.com, type in How to Reupholster a Drop-In Chair Seat, it will give you step by step, illustrated instructions on diy upholstery. Just apply the same steps to your bar stools.
