Ou bad-a** li'l kitten…?
We have two cats, one small kitten, Mihana and one 2 1/2 year old fat cat, JoJo. Mihana, is extremely smart and picked up a bad habit from her bother JoJo, climbing on the counter. I’ll give her credit, she is extremely smart and has figured out that she can use the rungs on the bar stools, like steps to climb up to the counter, since she is too small to jump. I know better than to just swat her, it doesn’t work well with cats and it’s mean. We use a spritzer bottle with straight water in it. This works but only temporarily, how do we get her to stop getting on the counter?

Moth balls, is what my grandma uses and it works.
Figure out a way to stop her. Move some stuff?
You could try making a loud noise too, or rigging a tin can with coins in it to fall when they get up on the counter. It worked for my cats (better than the water bottle, but they’re fraidy-cats when it comes to loud noises).
The water trick is good. But also telling her no in some tones of voice. But this is what i used on my demon-cat. When she does something wrong, first time tell them "no" Second time, "no."& water. Thrid time "no" And a soft tap between the eyes and on the forehead works. It doesn;t have to be a hard tap. These steps worked for all my cats.
Spraying my cats with water has always worked great, but I don’t get too worked up about them on the counter top so I’ve never had to try to break this habit. I do remember reading about this device that you can put on your counters that gives them a little shock when they touch it, kind of like an invisible fence. Check it out.
Many cats cannot stand the feel or sound of aluminum foil. Try putting a few sheets of aluminum foil on the counter and allow the kitten to climb on the counter to see it the foil will deter the behaviour.
This in combination with the spray bottle could be an inexpensive solution.
Good luck, my family and I have four cats, all spoiled rotten of course, and we only have to say spray bottle now and any bratty behaviour comes to a halt.
Good luck, I hope this helps and have a Merry Christmas.
Chili Powder!
I’ve trained four cats of my own with it – you sprinkle chili powder on the counter and once the cat jumps on the counter and licks his feet he will never get up there again! It doesn’t hurt them, just makes them a little uncomfortable
You cannot stop a cat from being a cat any more than you can ask the sun to stop shining! No matter what you try, eventually she will learn to jump, and while you are sleeping, will do exactly as she pleases. This is one of the many reasons I do not have cats! Good luck trying to "train" her… actually it is YOU that will be trained, for that matter, you already have been… youfeed her when she is hungry and pet her when she demands your attention. Good Human hehehehehe
