Kitchen Pass Through Granite question?
I built a kitchen livingroom pass through 56" x 30" I was unsure of how wide to make the granite top i ordered to fit it. I want it as a bar in the kitchen to watch tv in the livingroom first I ordered it 56" x 12" but changed it to 56" x 15" the wall is about 5.5" thick. Is that to wide? I figured over hang 4" in living room and 6" in the kitchen being the bar stools will be there. Any thoughts also Do i need support brackets for a 6" overhang? Any answers would be appreciated
I appreciate your thoughts on this I think 6 inchs should be enough I did make the counter alittle high 49inchs off the ground so i had to get extra high bar stools to match but it came out nice for a begginner thx

Personally I think I would have gone a little wider on the kitchen side just because if you are sitting on a bar stool with only 6" of overhang you would have to turn your legs to one side or the other and would not be very comfortable. You shouldn’t need extra support because granite is so hard and won’t flex at all. just make sure you secure it well to the base of the ledge. sorry, I know this is a late answer.
I’m seen quite a few granite tops hang over as much as 8". Never seen any longer. If for some reason you are doubting it; they can also hollow out a small recess underneath the overhang and epoxy a steel rod in for strength like they do for the front and back of the sink cutouts.
