I have a do it you self question how should fabric (apolstry) be dyed?

I have a table set of bar stools are made with apolstry fabric I want to know the best way to go about diying them, should a sponge work or take an aproch with a paint brush, (making even strokes)

If the barstools are just the round, backless type, you should be able to remove the fabric for dying. This is really the best way, because you don’t want to take the chance of excess dye coming off on people’s clothes. I’ve known people who have used dye in their cars to cover sun fading, but they’ve never used it on upholstery that comes in contact with peoples’ clothing!
The stools will have a wooden base under the fabric and the padding that will have been attached with screws. Remove the screws and the seat will come off. The fabric is always attached by heavy-duty staples. You can pry these out with a flat head screw driver, but make sure you have a heavy duty stapler to replace the staples.
Because bar stools are small, it may actually be cheaper just to replace the fabric. If you’re really stuck on the idea of dying the fabric, keep in mind that, using Rit brand dye, poly/cotton blends of cloth work best. Fabric should be washed before dying to rid the cloth of dirt and any finishing products.
