how do you know if you’ve cracked a bone?

I was moving a bar stool earlier and it fell over and hit the top of my foot! It started turning blue almost instantly and is a little swollen, and throbbing like a toothache. Could it be cracked or is it just bruised?

You need to get it x-rayed to know for sure. I know from experience that depending on where the break is, you can walk on a broken foot, and it doesn’t always swell a lot.
Get it checked. I broke mine in August, and am still in a cast-boot. It can take a while to heal and you want to be sure it’s OK.
Most people go to the doctor.
You would be in enough pain as to not to be able to type this silly question.
