Bloody mucus in stool?
My 2½ year old daughter has always had a problem with bowel movements, most of the time having hard pellet like stools and being constipated. The doctors are not sure why, but by being on soy milk it is a little better but not completely. Today she has had 4 bm’s so far, the first being very dark almost black, she then said her stomach hurts and the next two were a normal consistency but green, almost as green as the ask/answer/discover bar at the top of the screen! The last one was very soft but not diahrrea and had a dark green mucus. When I was cleaning her up (she is normally potty trained and will go on the toilet but today she dosen’t want to at all and went in her pants though it isn’t sudden) there was bloody mucus in it also. She has a dr’s appointment next week and I am going to ask her about this, but is this something I should call and make the appointment sooner or is my daughter just having a stomach virus type thing?

my daughter had that problem when she was about 6 months old. i took er to the er becasue of the blood. all they did was stick the tip of their pinky in her rectum. when it came back with nothing on it they said that it was just from a hard bm. then it happened again a few months later and i took her to the doctor and she did the same thing. she said you can do this at home. i dont know that i would be able to do it(never had to as the problem never happened again) but it would probably be easier for your daughter for you to do it than a stranger unless she knows her doctor very well. but if you do it and you come back with blood on your finger i would get her to the doctor quick
check with the doctor and ask if it is worth having a biopsy.
The mucus is usually lined in the bowel and acts when it is trying to repair itself.
You can also ask about Chrones and Colitis and Ulcerative Colitis but i am sure it is nothing as serious as that. She would be having much more blood and mucas if so. If she is passing blood and mucas in every stool then it may be a possibility. Google colitis and check the symptons. It is also associated with loose bowel movements.
blood in the stool is usually caused by a hemorrhoid, which is a small swollen tissue that forms near the end of the rectum and can easily tear, usually from overwiping, which it sounds like could be happening from her frequent bowel movements. It isnt very serious and usually heals itself but you should still change the appointment for as soon as possible, preferibly tommarrow, It could be caused by an ulcer, even without the stomach pain, or a leak in the digestive tract, those are both rare but with her past problems, its something you would want to get checked out, it can get serious pretty fast.
My 2 1/2 year old daughter also has this problem. The doctors said that it could have something to do with the amount of milk that she drinks so I have limited it now. There has been bloody mucus also and my doctor said it could just be from a little tear where she has been straining so hard. She sometimes has green poo’s as well and my health visitor said that this was a sign of colic/belly ache.Things are gettin a little better now I have started to give her prunes at snack time, Thank God
Has the doctor tested for a dairy allergy or something like?
Its really horrible seeing your baby in so much pain and constantly straining trying to go
Hope the problem get better.
